We were so proud to see Angilyiya Mitchell’s work featured in the @thecutaway exhibition, alongside a major work taking centre stage in our stall and what a weekend it was for Papulankutja Artists. ❤️ A huge thank you to @nationalindigenousartfair for having us and bringing together such an incredible celebration of Indigenous art and culture. And we’re only getting started… Our new website is currently launching, we’ll be heading north for the @darwinartfair in just three weeks, followed by @desert_mob exhibition and market in Mparntwe/Alice Springs. Plenty more coming from Papulankutja. Keep an eye on us. 👀🔥

Meet the artist: ANGILYIYA Born in Emu Country i Meet the artist: ANGILYIYA Born in Emu Country in the Blackstone Ranges near Kunmarnarra Bore, Angilyiya Mitchell is a Traditional Owner for Kuru Ala — an important women’s dreaming place connected to the Kungkarrangkalpa / Seven Sisters Tjukurpa. A senior artist and respected Law woman, Angilyiya carries deep knowledge of Country, culture and traditional practices. Alongside her painting, she is highly skilled in carving punu (wood sculptures), tjanpi weaving and making bush medicines. She is also a passionate teacher and mentor, regularly sharing language, cultural knowledge, ethnobotany and Tjukurrpa stories with younger generations and local land management groups. As Angilyiya says herself, she is “the only one left to teach young people.”
