Lawrence Mitchell

Lawrence was born in Blackstone to Jennifer Mitchell, an important knowledge holder and artist. Jennifer taught Lawrence painting as he grew up and he has now developed his own unique style.

Lawrence paints his country and Tjukurrpa, depicting important places linked to his family. He is a very private man, often preferring not to share details of the subjects he paints.

Lawrence and his partner Sarah Lane come to the art centre and spend all day painting together. He takes such fine care and consideration in all his work, sitting patiently and calmly over his paintings for many hours.
